IOSH Working Safely – aims/objectives

Designed to ensure that workplace safety practices are effective and well managed, IOSH Working Safely teaches delegates to recognise their individual responsibility with regards to health and safety at work. They will focus on how individual actions contribute to the effectiveness of health and safety policies within an organisation, taking a closer look at the relevant legislation and control measures. A number of different workplace hazards will also be covered, with the aim of illustrating how the implementation and regular monitoring of control measures can help to reduce the level of risk.

General aims and objectives of the IOSH Working Safely course include:

  • The identification of occupational hazards and risks in the workplace
  • Listing the types of accidents and their causes
  • Identifying the legal rights and duties of employers and employees
  • Identifying and controlling common hazards such as fire, electricity, chemicals and work equipment
  • Assisting in accident investigation
  • Listing the procedures for measuring and reviewing performance

IOSH Working Safely course structure

Split into four modules in total, IOSH Working Safely is a classroom-based course assessed through a combination of multiple choice questions and practical risk assessment projects, including a hazard spotting exercise. The multiple choice examination comprises 10 questions in total, while the practical assessment consists of three separate elements. These assessments have been designed to teach delegates how to respond to a range of different risks and hazards in the workplace, including physical, electrical, chemical, environmental, biological, mechanical and organisational.

Who is the IOSH Working Safely course suitable for?

The IOSH Working Safely training course is suitable for all employees who would like to gain an overview of workplace safety, but do not have a specific responsibility for the health and safety, management or supervision of their colleagues.

IOSH Working Safely course outcomes

They will be able to confidently explain the importance of best safety practices; recognise their individual responsibilities in terms of workplace health, safety and wellbeing; distinguish the difference between hazards and risks and understand how workplace safety can be improved upon.

Upon successful completion of the IOSH Working Safely course, delegates will be awarded a certificate to illustrate their newfound knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and principles in the workplace.
