Written in line with the Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 and the HSE’s L153 guidelines, the CDM course raises awareness of the responsibilities of individuals with regards to the health, safety and welfare risks of a construction project.  Providing delegates with a legal update and enhanced understanding of the part they are required to play in a project’s delivery, the CDM course aims to improve the health and safety of those affected by the construction project and any subsequent operations that take place on site.

CDM course – aims/objectives

Governing the way in which construction projects of all sizes and types are planned within the UK, the CDM Regulations require specific individuals within the construction sector to effectively manage the health, safety and welfare of those working on construction projects. Accordingly, the CDM course raises awareness of the specific roles and responsibilities of the leading figures in the process, including contractors, clients, designers, architects and consultants.

Delegates will be taught the legal requirements of the CDM Regulations 2015 and the role of duty holders, enabling them to successfully contribute to risk reduction across all stages of the project. The CDM course will also enhance their knowledge of how to carry out meaningful design risk analysis, as well as the importance of effective communication, coordination and cooperation across all stages of the construction design management process.

CDM course structure

The CDM course is highly interactive, combining case studies and classroom-based discussion to teach delegates the importance of their individual and collective accountabilities within a construction project. At the end of their CDM training, delegates will be required to take a multiple choice test to consolidate their knowledge and successfully complete the course.

CDM course outcomes

Upon successful completion of the CDM course, delegates will have a thorough understanding of their individual legal duties and accountabilities, enabling them to effectively manage the health, safety and welfare risks for each and every construction project they work on. They will better understand the individual responsibilities of the contractor, principal contractor, client, designer and principal designer, while also becoming familiar with the required documentation for every project, including pre-construction information, the construction phase plan, a health and safety file, risk registers, assessments and F10 notification forms.
